The Competition
The SAE International Formula SAE program is an engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate students. The competition provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their engineering design and project management skills by applying learned classroom theories in a challenging competition. The engineering design goal for teams is to develop and construct a single-seat race car for the non-professional weekend autocross racer with the best overall package of design, construction, performance and cost.

The Build
The purpose of the Formula SAE design competition is to fabricate a lightweight, well handling, and fast formula prototype that is reliable with a reasonable budget. The choice of engine is up to the capstone design team and is chosen to match the vehicles handling capabilities. More power does not necessarily mean better in this competition. The frames we construct are usually steel tube frame chassis, and the preferred method of suspension are mountain biking shocks. The best possible outcome in a build is a formula car that is balanced in its power, speed, handling, weight, and aerodynamic profile.
